Honor Sister Jean

Image of Sister Jean WesselmanSister Jean Wesselman is a longtime friend, supporter and advocate of Seton, especially Seton Southwest Hospital. Her ties with Seton began more than 60 years ago as a student in the Seton School of Nursing. After graduating in 1956, she entered the Daughters of Charity. After formation and further education, she served as a nurse and later, as a chaplain at Seton Southwest, impacting the lives of too many people to count, including patients, families, nurses and associates, before retiring to become a volunteer at the hospital.

In 2014 when the Daughters of Charity left Austin, Sr. Jean was assigned to volunteer at Providence Hospital Emergency Department and at the Waco VA Hospital. Though farther away, Sr. Jean continued to visit Seton Southwest regularly and continued as an active member of the SSW Community and Patient Family Advisory Council, which she has served on since 2005.

Given her deep, rich history with Seton, we share the news with mixed emotions that Sr. Jean will soon move to St. Louis, Missouri, to join other Daughters of Charity in retirement. We have been so blessed by Sr. Jean's love and support at Seton Southwest Hospital and will greatly miss her presence here, yet we are so happy she has the opportunity to truly enjoy her well-deserved retirement.

To celebrate the commitment Sr. Jean has represented to Seton, we would like to recognize her with a gift in her honor — and we invite you to participate in this heart-felt tribute. These honorarium gifts will support the 2017 Seton Southwest Spring Affair, which benefits surgical equipment or the area of greatest need at Seton Southwest Hospital.

Please join us to say thank you to Sr. Jean and bless her with your generosity by making a gift to the Seton Southwest Spring Affair. Sr. Jean will be present at the event and the Seton Southwest Women’s Development Board will provide her with special recognition thanking her for her years of service and support. The acknowledgement to Sr. Jean will include a listing of all who contributed in her honor.

We bid Sr. Jean a fond farewell, but her legacy will continue at Seton Southwest Hospital — and we wish her many blessings in return!
